Christmas Party 2022

Our next regular club meeting, Tuesday, December 13, will be our Christmas party. The festivities will begin at 6 p.m. at Rice Park Pavilion.

The club will provide various meats from Carriage Crossing, Yoder. Everyone attending should bring plates, tableware, and food to share (e.g.: scalloped potatoes, a vegetable dish, a dessert).

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone there!

A few more notes about Hamfest ’21:

· Folks with Derby Radio Shack will be present, selling all sorts of wonderful ham radio wares.

· Doughnuts and beverages will be available.

· There will be a raffle for several excellent prizes, including an Anytone DMR with an extra battery. Raffle tickets will be $5 each. Easy Way Ham Books is donating licensing and operating manuals, too.

· This is a good chance to get your license free before the FCC begins charging $35 for the privilege in a month or two. And speaking of license testing, the ARRL reminds us that “all amateur exam applicants must provide their FRN to the Volunteer Examiners (VEs) before taking an amateur exam.” Read more about that and other requirements in this ARRL news story.

RCKARA’s Hamfest 2020, slated for September, has been cancelled. It has fallen victim to the COVID-19 pandemic, as have many other hamfests.

Thanks to everyone who had it on their calendars. We’ll hope for next year.

Field Day 2020

Field Day 2020

RCKARA will hold its annual Field Day at the National Guard Armory, 1111 N. Severance St., from 1 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday. Due to the ongoing pandemic, this won’t be the public event it usually is.  All area hams are invited to come and join in, though.

POST-FIELD DAY UPDATE

From club secretary Jerry, ACØRL:

RCKARA members, guests, applicants, and wannabees,

I would like to thank all of the participants that made this year’s Field Day so much fun and a huge success!

We had hams from Great Bend and McPherson show up and participate!

Our total score was 1250 points due to the served agencies and elected officials that showed up, and the kiddo’s that parents brought by.

Our thanks to the Kansas National Guard for allowing us to use their facility again and Reno County Emergency Management for the use of the Mad Cow.
